so you know i play trumpet. and you know i like jazz. so here's the deal: i want to get a jazz group going!!!
it wouldnt be some giant ensemble or something like that (where would we practice???) but a quintet or something like that would be great!
a quintet would involve: 1 trumpet 1 alto or tenor sax 1 piano or guitar
1 bass (electric or double, but if electric, preferably fretless)
1 drums
a sextet would involve:
1 trumpet
1 alto or tenor sax
1 piano
1 guitar
1 bass (same as above)
1 drums
a septet would involve:
1 or 2 trumpets
or
1 alto sax and 1 tenor sax
or
1 trumpet, 1 sax, 1 trombone
1 piano
1 guitar
1 bass (yeah)
1 drums
an octet would involve:
1 or 2 trumpets
or
1 alto sax and 1 tenor sax
1 trombone
1 piano
1 guitar
1 bass (SHABAZ)
1 drums
songs we'd do:
probably some dizzy gillespie, charlie parker, miles davis, those guys

practice sessions and performance
practice is ESSENTIAL. if youre not doing it at LEAST 3 hours a day on your own, we wont survive. we would probably practice as a group about 2 or 3 times a month, or more would be great, if we can find a place. i know they wouldnt mind at my church as long as we dont destroy stuff.
as far as performance goes, if we sound crappy we're not going on. we'll find gigs at bars or resturants or something. i dunno. we'll work that out. treat it as a job. usually people get paid to play in these kindof places. we wont make much at first, but if we're good, people will talk about us and we'll get bigger crowds. bigger crowds = more money. more money = demo cd. demo cd = us sending it out to record labels. record label = people hearing us and booking us for tours. yeah so uh...PRACTICE!!!
